Organically bound iron-chelate complex
For increasing the oxygen concentration in the blood
Active Iron is a high-quality supplement based on a specific organically bound iron-chelate complex, developed to support oxygen transport in the blood of racing pigeons. Iron is an essential component of haemoglobin, the blood pigment responsible for binding inhaled oxygen and transporting it to all body cells.
During periods of increased physical strain such as training, racing, breeding, and moulting, the iron requirement of pigeons rises significantly. Iron deficiency is therefore one of the most common deficiency symptoms in racing pigeons and results in a reduced haemoglobin level. This leads to an insufficient oxygen supply to the organism and a noticeable decline in performance.
Racing pigeons derive their flight energy mainly from lipid metabolism, a process that requires considerably more oxygen than carbohydrate metabolism. A sufficiently high haemoglobin concentration is therefore a key performance factor.
Active Iron promotes haematopoiesis, increases the number of red blood cells, raises the oxygen concentration in the blood, and accelerates oxygen transport to the cells (mitochondria). After only a few days of use, the blood-iron level (haematocrit value) rises significantly, leading to a natural improvement in performance during races.
Because gastrointestinal disorders can impair iron absorption, it is important that the natural intestinal flora of the pigeon remains intact to ensure optimal uptake of iron.
