Under certain circumstances, it is practical for lories, hanging parrots and fig parrots to eat LoriDry as a dry food. This can be useful, for example, when third parties have to care for the birds during the absence of the regular caretaker, or during periods of constant high temperatures when feeding twice daily is not possible. It may also occur that birds purchased from abroad are accustomed to dry food or fruit and therefore do not readily accept liquid food.
Young birds can be gradually accustomed to dry food alongside liquid food after fledging. During periods when dry food is preferred, the birds will then accept it without any problems.
The nutritional value of LoriDry is identical to that of LoriNectar, but it is not soluble in water. LoriDry is composed of highly digestible ingredients. Make sure that the birds consume sufficient drinking water; the droppings will indicate this. Bath water is often contaminated and must not be used as drinking water. Therefore, bath water should not remain in the cage or aviary for extended periods.
Lories are very selective when it comes to food acceptance. Even within the same species, individual preferences may vary. Birds should therefore never be forced to eat LoriDry exclusively.
Application
Depending on the circumstances, LoriDry, LoriNectar or a combination of both can be offered. Recently fledged young birds can already be accustomed to LoriDry. Ensure that LoriDry remains dry and does not come into contact with drinking or bathing water.
